The world as a BlueDot.

The Pale Blue Dot is an iconic photograph of the earth taken on Valentine’s Day 1990 by NASA’s Voyager 1 space probe. Voyager 1 was speeding out of the solar system – beyond Neptune and about 6 billion kilometres from the Sun – when mission managers commanded it to look back toward home for a final time. It snapped a series of 60 images that were used to create the first “family portrait” of our solar system.

In this photograph, Earth's apparent size is less than a pixel. The planet appears as a tiny dot against the vastness of space, among bands of sunlight reflected by the camera: A pale blue dot.

We love this world and, in particular, everything we manage to build on it. We look at this world, with its many countries and cultures, as one world. One photograph that says it all.

BlueDot’s team.
